Today I was asked to set some of backups of vCenter.

My pre-reqs (Windows Fileserver)

• Network Path (mine being \\MS1-FS1\vcenterbackup)
• Service Account of vcenterbackup

Open up the VAMI of your vCenter <<vcenter name/ip>>:5480

Log in as root

Make sure your Username doesn’t include your domain (In my case it was ms1/vcenterbackup) as error is listed as Failed to mount the remote storage

In my example here, im scheduling a daily backup at 11:59 PM every night, and backups will be retained for 7 days.

Click on Create and you should see your new config

Click on BACKUP NOW

Tick the Use backup location and user name from backup schedule

Click START

You should see a backup starting.

That concludes the setup of backups using SMB in vCenter 7.0!
